A world record for Rahul Dravid

At the end of fourth day's play in the Lord's Test, Dravid has aggregated 1468 runs in fourth innings of Tests at an average of 44.48. This takes him ahead of Brian Lara [ Images ], who had a tally of 1,440 runs in the fourth innings of Tests.
Interestingly Dravid's average shoots up to 72.78 in successful fourth innings chases and matches where India earned a draw while batting last. India will need Dravid to play another memorable knock to bail them out today. Can he do this one more time?

King of the world: Karl Stefanovic's Sydney to Hobart win caps off a golden year

THIS has been Karl Stefanovic's year to remember: he won praise for his coverage of the Queensland floods and royal wedding, he won the hearts of TV viewers at the Logies, and now he has won the Sydney to Hobart race.
The Today Show host had a nervous wait this morning as his boat, LOYAL, was investigated over claims the crew had spied on rival boat Wild Oats XI. But today the boat was cleared of any wrongdoing, allowing Stefanovic to pick up where he left off last night.
"Thanks for all your messages folks," he tweeted. "All I can say about the controversy is 'Why did I decide to drink rum with the sailors last night'. Ouch."
The tweet was pure Karl and a reminder that it's his larrikin charm that has sent him to the top. Remember this was also the year that he told a corny pizza joke to the Dalai Lama, lost his bundle over a "stabby thing" and spoke about Today colleague Richard Wilkins' "massive c..." .

Hussey falls to Zaheer in 1st test 2nd inning

Australia were dismissed for 240 runs in their second innings before lunch, after Mike Hussey and James Pattinson resumed on 179-8, with a lead of 230, on day four of the first Test at Melbourne, on Thursday.
Hussey, who survived a dropped catch on 69 by Dravid on day three, rode his luck to beat a big caught behind appeal down the leg side but was soon out for 89, feathering a catch to wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni off a stinging Zaheer Khan delivery that moved away slightly.
Chasing 292 for victory, India's famed batting line-up failed to live up to their top billing as they were bowled out for 169 in 47.5 overs to lose the first Test by 122 runs.

India win series after Sehwag's record 219

Indore, (AFP): Virender Sehwag smashed the highest score in one-day cricket on Thursday as India flattened the West Indies by 153 runs to take a decisive 3-1 lead in the five-match series.Sehwag hammered a scintillating 219 off 149 balls to lift India to their best one-day total of 418-5, before theWest Indies were bowled out for 265 in the fourth international.

Debutant leg-spinner Rahul Sharma picked up three wickets in his first three overs as the tourists were outplayed despite a defiant 96 from wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin.

Ramdin put on 64 for the last wicket with Sunil Narine (27 not out) before he was caught in the deep attempting to score his maiden one-day century.

Sehwag plundered 25 boundaries and seven sixes during his 149-ball blitz, joining compatriot Sachin Tendulkar as the only batsmen in history to score double-centuries in the 50-over format.

Sehwag moved past Tendulkar's 200 not out - against South Africa in Gwalior last year - in the 44th over when, on 197, he cut Andre Russell to the point fence.

He was finally dismissed in the 47th over when he was caught in the deep off Kieron Pollard and was clapped off the field by the entire West Indies team and some 30,000 jubilant home fans.

Sehwag's blistering knock helped India surpass their previous highest one-day total of 414-7 against Sri Lanka in Rajkot in 2009. It was Sehwag's 15th three-figure knock in one-day cricket and the first since making 175 against Bangladesh in the opening match of the World Cup in Dhaka in February this year.

Sehwag, who is captaining India in the series in the absence of the rested Mahendra Singh Dhoni, had managed just 46 runs in the previous three matches.

But he found the right conditions on the run-laden pitch at the Holkar stadium in Indore to strike form ahead of the Test series in Australia starting later this month.

Sehwag, who was dropped on 170 by West Indies captain Darren Sammy in the covers, put on 176 for the first wicket with Gautam Gambhir (67) and 140 for the second with Suresh Raina (55).

Left-hander Gambhir, who had scored 16 runs in the series, broke the shackles to hit 11 boundaries in his run-a-ball innings during the rollicking opening stand.

The West Indies suffered a blow before the start when star batsman Darren Bravo was ruled out of the must-win game due to a hamstring strain. Bravo was replaced by Kieran Powell. The final match will be played in Chennai on Sunday.

London 2012: Olympic organizers say over 4 billion will watch opening and closing ceremonies

LONDON — London 2012 organizers say more than 4 billion people will watch the opening and closing ceremonies for next year’s Olympics and Paralympics.
About 20,000 people will perform in the four ceremonies but the local organizing committee has yet to announce the headline performers.

British media have speculated that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr may perform.
Advertising executive Martin Sorrell says the huge audience means the ceremonies are worth $3.2 billion in advertising to Britain.
Sorrell adds that “with regards to perception of London and the UK and a tourism legacy, you could say that they will be priceless.”

Tiger Woods wins for the first time since scandal erupted

No, this isn’t a photo from the archives. Tiger Woods won a tournament today. (Robert Meggers / Getty Images)
You remember Tiger Woods on Sundays? Red shirt, jackwagons in the gallery yelling “get in the hole” with every swing, the grin, the victorious fist pump?
That guy and that scene — missing since the 2009 Australian Masters — were back today, with Woods beating Zach Johnson by one stroke in the Chevron World Challenge at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. He birdied the final two holes and finished at 10-under 278. The tournament is not a PGA Tour event; it is an 18-player invitational that benefits his foundation.

Woods, who has dealt with personal problems, a divorce, injuries, a revamped golf game and a fired caddie since a tumultous 2009 Thanksgiving auto accident just a couple of weeks after that Australian win, wasn’t sure what to call what he was feeling; he was asked whether it was “joy, satisfaction or relief.”
“It feels awesome, whatever it is,” Woods said in an NBC interview.
With the win, his first in 749 days, Woods moves from 52nd in the world rankings to 21st — still a far cry from the No. 1 spot he’s so accustomed to, but he’ll take it. At least he has something to build on.
