THIS has been Karl Stefanovic's year to remember: he won praise for his coverage of the Queensland floods and royal wedding, he won the hearts of TV viewers at the Logies, and now he has won the Sydney to Hobart race.
The Today Show host had a nervous wait this morning as his boat, LOYAL, was investigated over claims the crew had spied on rival boat Wild Oats XI. But today the boat was cleared of any wrongdoing, allowing Stefanovic to pick up where he left off last night.
"Thanks for all your messages folks," he tweeted. "All I can say about the controversy is 'Why did I decide to drink rum with the sailors last night'. Ouch."
The tweet was pure Karl and a reminder that it's his larrikin charm that has sent him to the top. Remember this was also the year that he told a corny pizza joke to the Dalai Lama, lost his bundle over a "stabby thing" and spoke about Today colleague Richard Wilkins' "massive c..." .
